7280E YARDERS
CYPRESS 7280B to 7280E Electric Conversion
The 7280E Electric Conversion Program transforms an existing
Cypress 7280B yarder into a modern electric drive yarding system.
This program removes the original mechanical drum drive
components and replaces them with a purpose-built electric drive system,
delivering improved control, smoother operation, and reduced mechanical
complexity while extending the working life of the machine.
Rather than replacing the entire yarder, the conversion
allows operators to modernize proven equipment while retaining the rugged
structure and layout that made the 7280B a dependable production machine.
Proven in the Field
The first 7280E prototype conversion has been completed,
delivered to the customer, and is currently working in active production
yarding operations.
Early results show the system is meeting, and in several
areas exceeding, operational expectations while demonstrating the viability of
electric drive yarding in demanding real-world logging environments.
One of the most significant early results has been fuel
reduction. Real-world production data is showing diesel consumption reduced
from an average of approximately 45 litres per hour down to a working average
of approximately 14 litres per hour during normal yarding operations.
The prototype machine is actively moving wood and proving
the concept under working conditions while providing valuable operational
feedback as the program continues to evolve.
Built for Real Logging Conditions
The converted 7280E retains the rugged working capability expected from the platform while integrating modern electric drive performance.

CLEAR VIEW AND QUIET OPERATION
With a floor-to-ceiling front window and peaked roof design,
operators benefit from excellent uphill and downhill visibility. Large side
windows improve winch and ground visibility during yarding operations.
The cab interior is quiet and comfortable with climate
control, large sliders, and spacious access. Electronic controls provide
smooth, responsive operation with no air or hydraulic oil routed inside the
cab. Integrated safety lockout systems disable all controls during service
access.
What the Conversion Includes
The 7280E program replaces the original drum drive system
with a modern electric system engineered for durability, serviceability, and
precise control.
Standard conversion work includes:
-Removal of legacy drum drive
components
-Installation of electric drum
drive motors
-Integration of electric drive
controls cab updates
-Updated electrical systems and
integration
-Testing and commissioning prior
to delivery
Each conversion is completed with a focus on reliability,
ease of maintenance, and long-term operation in demanding forestry
environments.
Extending the Life of Proven Equipment
Many Cypress 7280B machines remain structurally sound and
capable of productive work. The 7280E Electric Conversion Program provides a
practical path to modernize these machines while preserving the durability and
ruggedness of the original platform.
The result is a yarder operators already trust, upgraded
with modern electric drive technology designed for today’s logging conditions.
