Job Summary: Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller will effectively lead financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, prepare/approve payroll, and direct financial reporting. The candidate will supervise accounting staff, foster a positive work environment, and optimize accounting procedures and processes while providing financial insights to support decision-making and the organization as a whole.

COMPETENCIES

·         Demonstrated ability to lead accounting staff; coordinate activities, provide guidance, and foster a positive work environment, assess and improve accounting procedures

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to collaborate effectively across multiple departments

·         Proficient in preparing accurate and timely financial reports; monthly reports, year-end accounting for external auditors, and conducting financial analysis to provide insight for decision-making

·         Expertise in compliance with laws, regulations and reporting requirements

·         Adaptable, flexible in dealing with a changing workload and able to prioritize tasks appropriately

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

LEADERSHIP

1.      Oversee accounting and finance staff

2.      Assess and improve accounting systems and processes

3.      Hire, train, and retain finance department employees

4.      Identify, develop, and monitor Key Performance Indicators of the department

5.      Participate in Strategic Planning for the organization and provide company leaders with financial insight for decision-making

 

COMPLIANCE:

1.      Ensure compliance with applicable rules, laws, and regulations

2.      Manage regulatory reporting, including preparation of the year-end accounting file and working with the external auditor to ensure all reporting and compliance returns are filed

3.      Prepare and approve compliance reporting for GST & PST

 

ACCOUNTING & FINANCIAL:

1.      Authorize and approve payroll for both union and non-union staff

2.      Prepare monthly financial reports and present to management with notes/comments

3.      Coordinate and direct CRA SRED claims and insurance renewals

4.      Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes, providing comment on budgets

5.      Design, implement & maintain efficient and effective internal financial controls. Deploy a risk-based approach to identify and document key controls. Evaluate the effectiveness of the key controls and implement corrective measures where needed

6.      Responsible for the company general ledger

7.      Evaluate and select accounting software solutions as needed

8.      Prepare and present financial reports and risk analysis

9.      Create reports that support decision-making

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

1.          Degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field (CPA valued but not necessary)

2.          At minimum, 5+ years of previous controller experience

3.          Expertise in month-end closings and financial statement preparation

4.          Proficiency with accounting software

Job Summary: Reporting to the General Manager, the Shop Foreman will play a vital role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of our shop.  The successful candidate will supervise tradespeople, foster a positive work environment and prioritize work to be completed.  Focused on shop safety, the Shop Foreman will have previous technical experience in an industrial heavy machinery shop and be able to easily answer customer questions and diagnose and troubleshoot challenges.

3.      Coordinate and schedule maintenance and repair projects, ensuring that resources, equipment, and materials are available and utilized efficiently

4.      Maintain and update service records, including work orders, repair logs, and customer information, ensuring accuracy and completeness

5.      Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills to improve shop operations

SALES:

1.          Provide service and quotes to customers regarding product manufacturing and/or repairs

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

·         Technical or vocational training in a machining, mechanical, fabrication/welding field

·         Proven experience as a Red Seal journeyperson, with a strong understanding of manufacturing systems and repair procedures (10+ years)

·         Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a shop or service center environment (5+ years)

·         Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

·         Strong knowledge of shop equipment and tools, including diagnostic equipment and hand tools, and machine diagnostic techniques
